The creation of the Mrtyu signature fashion collection is a work based on the Heritage theme from the 2024/2025 Trend Forecasting with the sub-theme of Reminiscence. The main inspiration for this collection comes from the Ngutang Mayit burial tradition in Trunyan Village Bali which is an intangible cultural heritage. This tradition contains religious values that have been passed down and preserved by the Bali Aga community as the native inhabitants of Trunyan Village. The Ngutang Mayit tradition reflects the Bali Aga community s belief in upholding respect for ancestors and maintaining balance between the physical and spiritual worlds. The creation of this work uses the Practice-led Research method which is divided into four stages the preparation stage the design stage the realization stage and the presentation stage. The design was developed by referencing the works of designer Robert Wun who explores life and death and Claes Iversen who is known for his unique and structural clothing constructions. The collection is named Mrtyu which means death but also includes the meaning of spiritual transformation. Based on the collection s design plan four alternative designs were created as options. The selected design was ultimately the fourth one a one-piece Dress with a minimalist structural form and a wrapping ruffle detail made from a combination of black duchess fabric and Balinese Endek woven fabric. This ruffle detail symbolically represents death tearing apart the human body showing that human life and death are interconnected and inseparable. The result of this fashion collection was quite good although some assessments indicated that the ruffle was not stiff enough and the veil was too short. Overall this work concludes that the Ngutang Mayit tradition can be a source of ideas for preserving local wisdom through innovative design and it is recommended to create a prototype first to achieve more optimal design results.
