ABSTRACT Sulaksono Dean Jati.2025. Differences in Inquiry Learning and Direct Instruction Learning on Student Learning Outcomes in Basic Subjects of Mechanical Engineering Expertise Program at SMKN 3 Boyolangu. Thesis Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Education Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Faculty of Engineering State University of Malang. Advisor Prof. Dr. Yoto S.T. M.Pd. This study aims to determine and describe (1) Is there a difference in Inquiry learning on student learning outcomes in the Basic lessons of the Mechanical Engineering Expertise Program at SMKN 3 Boyolangu (2) Is there a difference in Direct Instruction learning on student learning outcomes in the Basic lessons of the Mechanical Engineering Expertise Program at SMKN 3 Boyolangu (3) Is there a difference between Inquiry learning and Direct Instruction learning on student learning outcomes in the Basic lessons of the Mechanical Engineering Expertise Program at SMKN 3 Boyolangu Inquiry learning is an approach that emphasizes an active investigation process by students to discover knowledge through questions experiments analysis and reflection. This approach encourages students not to simply be passive recipients of information but to actively participate in seeking answers to questions they pose themselves or those posed by educators. Meanwhile the Direct Instruction learning model is a term that describes a strategy for managing the entire series of teaching and learning activities in a structured manner from the initial stage to completion. Learning outcomes are the achievements of student learning activities over a certain period of time. Learning outcomes include aspects such as cognitive affective psychomotor and teaching materials used in research. This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design and a nonequivalent control group design. The sample consisted of two classes an experimental class and a control class taught using the Inquiry and Direct Instruction learning models. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests then analyzed using an independent sample t-test at a significance level of 0.05. The results of the study showed that the class using the Inquiry learning model experienced a significant increase in learning outcomes with an average value of 72.79 and the class using Direct Instruction reached an average of 61.30. Based on the T-test on the post-test a significance value of 0.001 ( lt 0.05) was obtained which means there was a significant difference between the two groups after the treatment was given. The average difference in learning outcomes between the two groups was 11.49 points which shows the superiority of the Inquiry learning model compared to Direct Instruction learning.
