Abstract

Accounting Education students interest in pursuing a career as a teacher tends to decline even though they initially chose education majors with specific motivations. This condition indicates a mismatch between the expected graduate profile and the reality in the field. One factor suspected of influencing this phenomenon is career outcome expectations and gender stereotypes. This study aims to analyze the influence of these two factors on the interest in pursuing a career as a teacher among Accounting Education students at 20 universities in Indonesia. The research method used was quantitative by distributing questionnaires to 214 respondents data were analyzed using the PLS-SEM method through the SmartPLS 4 application. The results showed that career outcome expectations and gender stereotypes have a positive and significant effect on interest in pursuing a career as a teacher with a stronger influence shown by career outcome expectations. This study also found a tendency for students to change careers due to negative expectations towards the teaching profession.
