Abstract

This study investigates students rsquo perceptions affective engagement and satisfaction with English digital comics as a medium for reading outside the classroom. A survey design was employed involving 79 students from various study programs. The findings revealed that students perceived digital comics as accessible (51.9%) and helpful for understanding English texts (46.8%). In terms of affective engagement 50.6% reported feeling emotionally connected to the stories or characters reflected in enjoyment curiosity and motivation to continue reading. Furthermore 41.8% strongly agreed that digital comics motivated them to read more English texts and improve their reading skills. Responses from open-ended questions indicated that the students rsquo favorite genre was romance. In addition the most appealing aspects of digital comics were illustrations or artistic style (25.3%) and storyline or plot (22.8%). On the other hand the most frequently mentioned challenge was difficult vocabulary (21.5%) which should be addressed to enhance the reading experience. Overall English digital comics function as an enjoyable motivating and effective reading medium as they combine entertainment with language learning while also offering practical insights for educators and media developers.
