Abstract

Gross motor development in early childhood is an important indicator in supporting children s physical and social activities. Impairments in this area can be a sign of neurological disorders that require special attention such as Tourette syndrome. This disorder is characterized by the sudden repetitive and involuntary occurrence of motor and vocal tics which can disrupt a child s daily life especially when not properly managed. One case highlighted in this study is a 6-year-old child exhibiting such symptoms such as uncontrolled movements and repetitive vocalizations which often occur when the child feels tired or has been using electronic devices for too long. This study aims to describe the gross motor impairments experienced by children with Tourette syndrome identify the factors influencing their onset and explain the forms of intervention applied both at home and at school. The method used is a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data was collected through direct observation of the child s behavior and in-depth interviews with parents and teachers to gain a comprehensive understanding of the child s condition and needs in the context of daily life. The results of the study indicate that children experience difficulty maintaining body balance sustaining certain postures and frequently perform spontaneous movements such as shaking their heads or blinking their eyes. These symptoms tend to worsen when children are tired or exposed to excessive sensory stimulation. The tics that emerge are caused by disruptions in the central nervous system that controls movement not due to muscle weakness or damage. Additionally no history of neurological disorders physical trauma or seizures was found to explain this condition making psychological and environmental factors the dominant triggers. Management involves a combination of medical interventions and environmental strategies including establishing routines reducing stress triggers and implementing inclusive learning approaches at school. Based on the findings it can be concluded that gross motor impairments in children with Tourette syndrome are more related to neurological factors than to typical motor developmental delays. Effective management requires collaboration between parents teachers and medical professionals with a responsive and consistent approach to the child s needs. A comprehensive understanding of the child s neurological and emotional condition is crucial to ensure optimal development in a physically and psychologically supportive environment.
