(II) Prof. Dr. Sa dun Akbar M.Pd Keywords Make a match learning model couple card beginner reading skills The application of the learning model by collaborating between learning and play is very suitable for elementary school students especially in the lower grades. The selection of learning models must be adjusted to the characteristics learning objectives and material to be taught. The use of a make a match learning model assisted by couple card media can be an effective alternative in improving the initial reading skills of grade 1 elementary school students. This model invites students to actively match paired cards related to letters syllables and simple words so that the learning process becomes more fun and meaningful. Through the stages in the make a match syntax such as card giving finding a partner and simple discussions students are directly involved in the process of getting to know and understand the reading. This activity not only trains cognitive skills but also builds social interaction and confidence in reading. This study aims to determine the influence of the make a match learning model assisted by couple card media on the initial reading skills of grade 1 elementary school students. The type of research used is quantitative pre-experimental design with one group pretest and posttest design. The data analysis technique used a t-test (paired sample t-test) with a significance of 0.05. Based on the results of the study there is a difference in the average score between the pretest and the posttest. The average pretest score was 68 while the posttest score was 81. From the results of the difference in average scores it shows a high increase in scores. To analyze the data a paired sample t-test was used which analyzed the results of pretest and posttest scores. The results of the t-test showed a significance value of lt 0.001 lt 0.05 which means that there was a significant difference in the improvement of early reading skills in students. Based on the test results data analysis shows the difference in values between pretest and posttest. The difference in scores is due to an increase in scores that proves that the application of the make a match learning model assisted by couple card media has been proven to have a good influence in improving the initial reading skills of grade 1 students.
