Reading interest is an important indicator in shaping students literacy skills especially at the elementary education level. This study aims to explore the reading interest of grade V students of SDN Macanbang and its impact on their literacy skills. Using a qualitative approach through case studies data is collected through observation interviews and documentation. The results of the study show that students reading interest has a significant effect on the ability to understand the content of reading writing and attitudes towards literacy activities. However students interest in reading is still relatively low with most only reading when instructed by the teacher. The main obstacles include limited access to reading books lack of assistance from teachers and the lack of optimal use of school libraries. The identified improvement strategies include the routine implementation of a 15-minute reading program the provision of classroom reading corners the variety of reading materials according to students interests and the use of learning media such as literacy trees. This research recommends the active role of teachers and collaboration with parents to create a contextual and sustainable literacy culture in primary schools.
