p Contamination in aquatic areas is one of the environmental issues. A common problem that often occurs is the pollution of aquatic areas by heavy metals. Manganese is a heavy metal and its distribution across various environments needs to be monitored. High concentrations of Mn metal can be hazardous to human life. One method that can be used to reduce manganese levels is the adsorption method. The reduction of manganese levels in water can be achieved using cellulose-based adsorbents from wood sawdust. This research aims to produce hydrolyzed cellulose as an effort to create nanocellulose from wood sawdust as an adsorbent for manganese metal ions. The stages of this research include pre-treatment (delignification and bleaching) acid hydrolysis optimization of adsorbent mass and contact time as well as application. The hydrolyzed sawdust cellulose was characterized using FTIR PSA SEM and BET. Based on the characterization results a cellulose adsorbent with an average size of 284 nm porous morphology and a surface area of 1.226 m sup2 /g was obtained. This adsorbent has an optimum adsorption contact time of 30 minutes with an optimum adsorption capacity of 0.1188 mg/g. /p
