Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the dominant errors made by students in writing a descriptive paragraph about a place. This study used a content analysis design and used descriptive quantitative and qualitative approach. The participants of this study was 28 students grade VIII-C Junior High School 1 Pakisaji academic year 2024/2025. Data were collected by asking students to write a descriptive paragraph that describes a shopping place. Then the data were analyzed based on theory from Dulay et al. (1982) surface strategy taxonomy. The error categories included omission addition misinformation misordering. The results revealed that the most dominant errors made by students are in omission errors at a percentage of 75%. The second most common error was addition at 19%. This was followed by misorder errors at 4% and the least error common error was misformation at 2%.
