This study is conducted to investigate the correlation between students rsquo usage of social media precisely on the amount of time spent and the number of social media platforms they used and their vocabulary achievement. The research uses a correlational design involving 37 English language education students from Universitas Negeri Malang. The instruments used in the study were a new form of vocabulary level test (NVLT) formulated by Webb Sasao and Ballance (2017) and a questionnaire consisting of two sections social media habit and perception toward studying vocabulary with social media surveys distributed through Google Form. The correlation between the variables from the vocabulary test result and the questionnaire was calculated using Spearman correlation coefficient in SPSS version 27. The data analysis result showed that the null hypothesis could not be rejected since with the Sig. value exceeding the 0.05 level of confidence it was found that there was no significant correlation between students rsquo usage of social media and their vocabulary achievement. Therefore this study showed that duration in using social media in a day or the number of social media used do not have any relationship with the vocabulary skill.
