Abstract

One of the indicators of the success of Vocational High Schools (SMK) is their ability to channel graduates into the workforce. However data from the Badan Pusat Statistik (2020) shows that SMK graduates are the largest contributor to the unemployment rate in Indonesia. The high unemployment rate of SMK graduates indicates that the work readiness of SMK students is still low. To help improve students work readiness research is needed that examines the factors of work readiness. This study aims to analyze the contribution of employability skills and career planning to students work readiness at SMK PGRI Singosari. The research uses a correlational design with a population of 187 12th-grade students. A sample of 128 students was selected based on calculations using Slovin s formula. The instruments used include the Student Employability Skills Questionnaire (SESQ) a career planning scale and a work readiness scale all of which have undergone instrument testing. The findings from the multiple linear regression analysis confirm that employability skills have a positive and significant impact on work readiness with a contribution of 34% (sig. 0.000 lt 0.05 t count 8.508 gt t table 1.97912). Career planning also contributes positively and significantly by 44.5% (sig. 0.000 lt 0.05 t count 10.057 gt t table 1.97912). Simultaneously these two variables contribute 54% to students work readiness (sig. 0.000 lt 0.05 F count 73.441 gt F table 3.07). These findings highlight the importance of strengthening employability skills and career planning to enhance students work readiness at SMK.
