Abstract

This study delves into the linguistic aspects of profanity in the rap lyrics of Rich Brian an Indonesian rapper known for his unique style and lyrical prowess. The research explores how profanity functions as a powerful tool for emotional expression intensifying sentiments such as assertiveness defiance and rebellion. By employing a robust methodology encompassing data collection and analysis the study examines the diverse array of profanity types used in Rich Brian s lyrics in the song 'Dat tick' including explicit vulgarity taboo language metaphorical usage and creative wordplay. Additionally the research sheds light on the implications of profanity in the context of cultural appropriation and identity politics in the rap genre. While recognizing the artistic value of explicit language the study also acknowledges the potential harm and perpetuation of stereotypes associated with certain profane expressions. It emphasizes the importance of approaching language use with sensitivity and respect for diverse perspectives fostering a more inclusive and respectful environment for communication.
