Abstract

This research aims to find out the translation strategy accuracy and acceptability of the translation of the song Pura-Pura Lupa originally sung by Mahen. The cover version in English Pretend to Forget rsquo is sung by Emma Heesters on her YouTube channel. This research is primarily a descriptive translation study (DTS). The data are the 19 pair lines of lyrics of the original song (ST) and the translated version (TT). In addition a personal interview and survey were conducted in order to find out what strategy that the translator used in translating this song and to know the quality of the song translation. The comparison between Vinay and Darbelnet s (2000) translation strategy and the translator s basic principle were used to analyze the strategy and indicators by Nababan et al. (2012) are used to assess the translation quality in terms of accuracy and acceptability. The analysis shows that while Vinay and Darbelnet s (2000) translation strategy emphasizes more on the meaning of the translation the translator s basic principle focuses more on the translation structure. In summary the translation quality of the song lsquo Pretend to Forget rsquo is categorized as quite accurate and acceptable.
