ABSTRACT The purpose of this study to determine 1) how the conundrum in the form of the Java language 2) what is the function conundrum in the Java language and 3) what cultural elements contained in the Java language conundrum. Conundrum in the Java language is a type of expression that if requires others to guess something (object) that questioned. Conundrum sometimes us a simple answer but sometimes also use similarity. Pay attention the definition of conundrum that must be answered. That s mean speakers require dialogue partners. Speakers as the person who gives the question referred to as pencangkrim while the person who answers conundrum or a dialogue partner called pembatang. The existence of two speakers namely pencangkrim and pembatang give rise to a dialogue. Conundrum can be spoken by children and by adults. While the context that allows the conundrum occurs among other things 1) when children play 2) Community service 3) to see the person who give birth and 4) religious teaching. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. It means the data is collected and expressed in the form of a sentence from the interview between the researcher and informants. The qualitative technique is used in this research because this technique is used to understand the rational reality as subjective reality. The process of observation and in depth interviews are very primary in the data gathering. The data of this research were taken From Gambar orchard Wonodadi village Wonodadi district Blitar regency which society and culture are still using conundrum. Based on the shape the Java language conundrum can be distinguished by the shape wancahan pepindhan blenderan and tembang. The conundrum of wancahan is the conundrum in the form of acronym or word fragments. Conundrum this from can be distinguished 1. Resembles a particular word of phrase in the Java Language namely resembles the name resembles the word porn from a whole sentence (2) form a word or phrase that resembles certain foreign languages namely Arabic Dutch Chinese and Indonesian. (3) Form a word or phrase that is not obvious meaning. The conundrum of Pepindhan mention the condition or character of the goods. Conundrum in the Pepindhan form questions presented in the form of depiction of an object which compared to other object and then asked to guess that object. The conundrum of Blenderan is also called Plesetan conundrum in the blenderan form can be classified into three groups namely 1) blenderan conundrum caused by ambiguity of word 2) blenderan conundrum caused by ambiguity of sentences 3) blenderan conundrum caused by wancahan abbreviation phrases that form a specific word. The conundrum in the form of Tembang is actually same with 3 forms of conundrum that has been described above is wancahan conundrum blenderan conundrum and pepindhan conundrum. The difference is conundrum presented in the form of Macapat. There are at least two functions of conundrum there are as a game or as a means of entertainment and education. Conundrum is function as a game or an entertainment because it is able to stop saturation showed surprise and suggests superiority while entertaining. While conundrum able as a function of education because play with conundrum can teach critical thinking introduce environmental and religious teaching. The cultural element of the conundrum consists of (1) the introduction of an agrarian culture (2) the introduction of people s behavior and (3) the value of religiosity. Based on this research suggested for (1) Territory language teacher on the lesson as well if choose conundrum which appropriate children development (2) the writer of territory language book in order to put into conundrum inside lesson book of territory language and choose conundrum which appropriate children development. (3) suggest for next research this research still limited on the shape function and cultural value that contained in the conundrum still of many other aspects that can be discovered from conundrum for instance about the history of conundrum. With continues excavate aspects within conundrum to efforts conundrum conservation.
