Abstract

The rapid development of web-based technological tools has brought new opportunities for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction. As teachers increasingly shift from passive users to pedagogical decision-makers in digital environments it becomes essential to examine their perceptions the types of platforms they use and the pedagogical reasons behind their choices. This study aims to investigate EFL teachers rsquo perceived acceptance of web-based technological tools categorize the tools they use based on phases of web development (Web 1.0 ndash Web 4.0) and explore the reasons behind their use in the teaching process. A survey with a multi case study design was employed. Quantitative data were collected through a TAM-based questionnaire and analyzed descriptively. Qualitative data were gathered through open-ended responses and analyzed using thematic analysis. The participants consisted of 37 EFL teachers from various educational levels and institutions. The results indicate that teachers held positive perceptions of the ease of use usefulness and satisfaction in using web-based technologies. Platform usage varied by web phase Web 1.0 (online dictionaries and reference sites) Web 2.0 (social media and educational games) Web 3.0 (LMS messaging apps video conferencing) and Web 4.0 (AI-generated content and automated feedback systems). Teachers rsquo reasons for using these tools were pedagogically driven including supporting language acquisition enhancing student engagement managing classroom tasks and personalizing materials. This study underscores the importance of continuous teacher training equitable infrastructure and context-sensitive pedagogical support to foster meaningful inclusive and effective integration of web-based technologies in EFL classrooms.
