Abstract

Indonesian people are known to have poor reading habits. Extensive reading is believed to be able to solve that problem. However the students seem to still be reluctant to do it because of some reasons even though extensive reading is also called reading for pleasure. Also most of the studies only discuss the results of applying extensive reading to the students without discussing what motivational factors encourage them to do this activity so that the learning objectives can be achieved. This study discusses three important factors in learning situations that can affect students motivation namely course teacher and group-specific motivational factors. Also students can add other related motivational factors based on their opinions. From the results of the questionnaire that has been distributed to ELT 2018 students it is found that the strong motivational factors that can increase students motivation are mainly related to the course and teacher-specific motivational factors. Other than that students are also highly motivated by the reading materials that are interesting easy and varied.
