The instruments used in this study were questionnaires observation sheets structured interviews and the students piece of writing on a recount text . The data on the suitability and attractiveness of the developed materials resulted from the try out using questionnaires were classified tabulated and analyzed descriptively. The data obtained from the observation the structured interview and the work of the students were used to add and clarify the data from the questionnaires. The result of the try-out showed that the content was considered various and suitable although it was considered demanding. However in the teaching learning process the teacher informed that they did more participation commented each other and on the topics of the texts and laughed. It means that although the materials were rated difficult they loved to read them. The exercises and activities were considered various and suitable. To the level of difficulty of these points the data showed that 60 % of the students rated them difficult. However the composition of the students showed that they could produce understandable English. Moreover the tones of their piece of writing proved that they loved and enjoyed doing the task as they wrote in happy tones (writing about their funny stories). The result of the try out of the developed materials shows that easier materials revisions on the exercises and the directions of the exercises and more emphasis on how the book should be used to produce maximum learning outcomes are required. The final version of the material is employed to follow the characteristics (the approach contents exercises and activities and lay out) of good ESP instructional materials. The approach reflects some theories of language and learning adopted. The contents are geared on the level of the students proficiency and relevant to their major. The exercises and activities promote enjoyable learning move from simple to complex and vary from controlled to free exercises and activities. The lay out is interesting to increase students motivation of learning. There are some suggestions concerning the materials further studies and ESP establishment especially to the History Department. The users of the book teachers and students should read Book Manual and the introduction of the book to have a complete understanding on how to use the book. To further verify the result of the try out in terms of the attractiveness and suitability of the materials Experimental research or Classroom Action Research are suggested to be made. Regarding the ESP establishment it is more significant to place ESP course in the four or fifth semester with the total credit hour is six or eight credits hour. Besides more trainings and workshops are expected to complete the understanding of the teaching of ESP compared to EGP (English for General Purposes).
