Abstract

In the context of an ever-changing education system the existence of non-linear teachers who teach subjects that do not match their formal educational background presents both challenges and opportunities for improving the quality of learning. This study aims to explore how the Sociology Teacher Working Group (MGMP) in Pasuruan Regency functions as a forum for developing the pedagogical and professional competencies of non-linear sociology teachers. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method. Data were collected through non-participant observation semi-structured interviews and documentation with seven informants consisting of supervisors MGMP Sociology administrators and linear and non-linear sociology teachers in Pasuruan Regency. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman interactive model which includes data collection data reduction data presentation and conclusion drawing. This study was analyzed using Lev Vygotsky s constructivist learning theory framework to understand the collective learning process of non-linear sociology teachers in the MGMP forum. The results of the analysis show that the implementation of the Sociology MGMP is considered capable of meeting the competency needs of non-linear sociology teachers in Pasuruan Regency. These needs are met through the implementation of the three main functions of the Sociology MGMP namely (1) the educational function realized through material sharing activities webinars on the preparation and development of teaching modules and open lessons to improve the pedagogical abilities of non-linear teachers (2) the professional function evident in efforts to develop teacher competencies through the alignment of educational vision and mission the writing of textbooks and self-development training through In-House Training (IHT) activities and (3) the coordination function with the MGMP acting as a liaison between teachers schools and the Education Office in ensuring the continuity of sustainable competency development programs. All functions are strengthened through evaluation activities that are followed up with open classes observation of good teaching practices improvement of resource persons quality and strategies to increase member participation.
