A passive lifestyle one of which is caused by the use of technology has a correlative impact on decreasing physical activity in children and adolescents. Students often spend most of their free time indoors sitting for long periods in front of the television or gadgets which can cause health problems related to minimal physical activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of physical activity of students at public and private high schools (SMA) in Malang City. The study used a quantitative descriptive method with a survey design. The number of samples of 376 students was determined using the Cochran formula and distributed proportionally across five sub-districts. This study used the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ) which produces MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) scores and was analyzed descriptively. The results showed that in general the level of physical activity of students was in the moderate category (52%) followed by the high category (38%) and low (11%). The level of physical activity of students at public and private high schools was mostly in the moderate category with percentages of 58% and 46% respectively. Based on the Mann-Whitney U test it can be concluded that there is no statistically significant difference between public and private high schools at the 5% significance level.
