This study explores the factors that contributed IISMA awardees rsquo speaking anxiety during their study abroad specifically from Universitas Negeri Malang. With globalization and scholarship opportunities growing each year being proficient in English helps students participate in international study programs like the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA). This study employs an explanatory research design combining quantitative data from questionnaire and qualitative data from interviews with selected participants. The results revealed that factors such as fear of making mistakes and experiencing with a new culture contributed to speaking anxiety. The findings provide insight for English teachers in Indonesia to build a supportive speaking environment and help students feel confident using English in various situations. The findings may also help future study abroad program applicants in preparing for challenges abroad.
