Lecturers use oral corrective feedback to improve students speaking accuracy so knowing students perceptions of Oral Corrective Feedback (OCF) is also important for effective learning. This current study aims to find out the preference of English department students on the Oral Corrective Feedback (OCF) types and time and to find out the students perception toward the impact of OCF. Many studies have been conducted in this area but the perceptions of first-year students (freshmen) are rarely explored. The design of this research is mix method research involving 40 freshman English Department students from one of university in East Java. The data was collected using questionnaire and following by interviews. The result indicated that lecturer in their teaching practice already frequently implement OCF in various class activities and various errors. Besides that the results also showed that repetition and explicit correction are the most preferred OCF types by students. This implies that these two types of feedback are suitable for teachers to implement in speaking classes especially for freshmen. Furthermore this study revealed that students prefer to get feedback immediately after their speaking or utterance is completed. In addition it can be seen that students have a positive response to the impact of OCF in terms of speaking improvement increasing motivation and emotional reaction. The result of this study can be insight to the lecturer to match their practice and students preference that might be effective for students learning development.
