This study explores students perspectives of target word counts in an Extensive Reading (ER) course at a state university in Malang Indonesia. Employing a quantitative design data were collected through an online survey of 141 students enrolled in the English Department s ER courses. The survey comprised 19 Likert-scale statements addressing students rsquo perspectives on target word count regarding how it influences their motivation engagement and personal growth development in the ER course. Data were analyzed systematically using Excel and SPSS to ensure reliability. The data gathered from questionnaires were presented as bar charts and then analysed using percentages. The results reveal students rsquo positive perspective on word count target in their motivation engagement and personal growth offering practical implications for ER curriculum design. However some students expressed concerns about the rigidity of word count targets which may cause stress or reduce enjoyment highlighting the need for balanced flexible goal-setting approaches to accommodate individual differences and maintain motivation.
