Vocabulary mastery plays a crucial role in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning particularly supporting the four core language skills especially written communication. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the Scrabble game in improving vocabulary mastery for upper secondary school students. The research method used quantitative with a quasi-experimental design involving non-equivalent control groups. The participants were two classes of 11-th grade students which were categorized into an experimental group and a control group each totaling 36 students. The experimental group was given treatment with the Scrabble game while the control group used conventional visual media. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test consisting 29 multiple choice questions and analyzed using an Independent Sample T-Test. The study hypothesized a significant difference in vocabulary mastery improvement between students taught using the Scrabble game and those taught using conventional visual media. The findings indicate a significant difference between two groups with sig (2 tailed) 0.028 lt 0.05 indicated that null hypothesis (H ) was rejected while the alternative hypothesis (H ) was accepted. This kindly shows that there was a significant improvement from the pre-test to the post-test. In conclusion the Scrabble game proved to be an effective strategy in improving vocabulary mastery for upper secondary school students as proven by the significant difference in post-test mean scores. Teachers are recommended to use Scrabble as a classroom activity to improve vocabulary mastery and student motivation.
