Writing is an activity that cannot be separated from the use of vocabulary. The higher a person s vocabulary mastery the easier it will be for him to choose the right words to express ideas in writing. In writing poetry mastery of vocabulary choice of diction and other elements of poetry are very important. Without adequate vocabulary mastery a person will have difficulty in creating poetry. Based on the results of observations in class VIII of MTs Islamiyah Sukopuro Jabung Malang Regency it is known that most students face challenges in producing quality poetry. This obstacle is caused by limited vocabulary mastery which has an impact on the difficulty in arranging words creatively and developing poetry ideas to the maximum. The main objective of the research is to improve the quality of learning so that it can help teachers in overcoming problems in learning especially in learning to write poetry. The approach used was Classroom Action Research (CAR) with 24 students from class VIII-A as subjects. The research process is from two cycles that include four stages namely planning implementation action observation and reflection The implementation of the action was carried out collaboratively between the researcher and the Indonesian language teacher.Data are collected by means of observation testing and documentation. The instruments used include student and teacher activity observation sheets students poetry writing ability test questions and assessment rubrics. Data are analyzed using a mixed approach qualitative and quantitative. Improvement of the teaching and learning process in the implementation carried out by teachers using qualitative data analysis. While determining the improvement of student learning outcomes using quantitative data. The results of this study show the process of learning to write poetry. In the implementation of cycle I the activities carried out by teachers and students are in the sufficient category. While the results in cycle II the activities of teachers and students are in the very good category. The use of synonym media has proven effective in helping students write poetry. This effectiveness can be seen from the results of the poetry writing test in both cycles. The average score achieved by students in cycle I was 65 42 while in cycle II it increased to 85 42. Thus there was an increase in the average score of 20 points from the first cycle to the second cycle.
