This study aims to determine the effect of the PBL model with the role-playing method on mathematical problem solving skills in addition and subtraction for third grade elementary school students. This study was conducted at SDN Lesanpuro 3 Kedungkandang District Malang City. The research subjects were 52 students from grades III A and III B. The PBL model was used to train students to understand and solve problems independently while the role playing method helped students apply concepts in real-life situations through role-playing simulations. The research was conducted using a quasi experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design. The method used in sampling was purposive sampling. In this study data analysis was carried out using an independent sample T-Test to determine the significance of differences in learning outcomes between the experimental and control classes. The results of the T-Test showed a significance value of 0.001 lt 0.05 so was rejected and was accepted which means there was a significant difference between the two groups. The results showed that the experimental class using the PBL model with the role playing method experienced a significant increase in learning outcomes. The average pretest score increased from 37.85 to 75.04. Meanwhile the control class only showed an increase from 35.35 to 43.20. Thus it can be concluded that the use of the PBL model with the role playing method has a fairly good influence on students abilities in solving problems of arithmetic operations of whole numbers in grade III of elementary school.
