Abstract

Creative thinking skills are an important aspect in learning to find solutions to students problems. However the implementation of learning in elementary schools still shows low creative thinking skills of students. One of the causes of this low skill is the application of learning models that are less varied. The Project Based Learning (PjBL) model based on Socio Scientific Issues (SSI) was chosen as an alternative because it actively involves students in solving problems individually or in groups and producing products that are presented. The purpose of this study was to explain the implementation of the PjBL-SSI learning model on the material of light on the creative thinking skills of fifth grade elementary school students to analyze the increase in students creative thinking skills between before and after learning in the control group and the experimental group and to compare the effectiveness of the PjBL-SSI model with the direct learning model in improving the creative thinking skills of fifth grade elementary school students. The study used a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design of the nonequivalent control group design. The population was 51 students with 24 students in the control class and 26 in the experimental class. Data were collected through tests observations and documentation then analyzed with descriptive and inferential statistics using SPSS. The results showed that learning in the experimental class was carried out very well with an average percentage of 92.2%. Overall students creative thinking skills in both groups increased with a Sig. (2-tailed) The results of the independent sample t-test showed Sig. (2-tailed) lt 0.05 namely 0.000 lt 0.05 meaning Ha was accepted and H0 was rejected. Thus it can be concluded that the influence of the PjBL SSI model on light material has a significant effect on the creative thinking skills of fifth grade elementary school students.
