Abstract

p Social anxiety refers to an individual s feelings of fear or excessive anxiety about a social situation and interactions with others. In social media interactions between individuals occur these interactions involve various forms of communication and content use. Such use often causes social anxiety for some individuals. The purpose of this study is to explore the role of social media use (image-based comparison-based belief-based and consumption-based) on social anxiety in adolescents. This study used a quantitative design. There were 242 research participants obtained using purposive sampling technique. The research subjects included adolescents with an age range of 13-19 years. The instruments used were the Social Media Use Scale (SMU-S) to measure social media use and the Social Anxiety Scale for Social Media Users (SAS-SMU) to measure social anxiety. The results showed that there is a role of social media use (image-based comparison-based belief-based and consumption-based). Partially it is known that the use of social media (comparison-based) significantly contributes to social anxiety in adolescents on social media (p lt 0.05). From these results it was found that the contribution of social media use (image-based comparison-based belief-based and consumption-based) to increasing social anxiety was 15.1%. /p
