p Soil plays an important role as a component to support the structural load above it. The Public Works and Housing Department stated that Sawahan Village Road Nganjuk Regency has experienced extensive damage due to very unstable soil conditions. Based on preliminary testing of the original soil the PI value was 26.99% which falls into AASHTO classification group A-7-5 (11) meaning clay soil with poor subgrade quality as foundation soil. The purpose of this research was to determine (1) changes in soil plasticity index when stabilized with quicklime and salt at various percentages and (2) changes in shear strength values of soil stabilized with quicklime and salt at various percentages. This research used a descriptive experimental method. The study used mixtures of quicklime and salt with percentage variations of (0% 0%) (4% 5%) (4% 7.5%) (4% 10%) (4% 12.5%) of dry soil weight during 7 days of curing. Testing included liquid limit tests plastic limit tests and direct shear strength tests. The results showed (1) a decrease in plasticity index with the addition of quicklime and salt at percentage (4% 7.1%) where the original soil PI value of 26.99% decreased to 13.99%. (2) An optimum increase in soil shear strength value with the addition of quicklime and salt at percentage (4% 7.1%) where the original soil shear strength value of 0.156 kg/cm sup2 increased to 0.378 kg/cm sup2 . /p
