Abstract

p This study analyzes the short and long-term effects of macroeconomic factors (inflation interest rates) banking performance indicators (Loan to Deposit Ratio Return on Assets Return on Equity) and credit restructuring policies on the Non-Performing Loan (NPL) ratio of Rural Banks (BPR) in Indonesia from March 2019 to November 2024. This quantitative research uses 69 months of time series data and applies the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model to examine both short and long term relationships among the variables. The results indicate that in the short term increases in interest rates and ROA lead to higher NPL while an increase in ROE reduces NPL. In the long term only ROA and ROE remain significant with ROA positively and ROE negatively affecting the NPL ratio. Credit restructuring policies inflation and LDR are found to have no significant impact in either the short or long term. These findings suggest that BPR cannot rely solely on profitability indicators but must strengthen prudent credit assessment and improve credit monitoring to maintain asset quality. /p
