p This study analyzes the expressive speech acts employed by Glinda a central character in the film Wicked (2024) as an attempt to understand her personality social standing and emotional journey. Using Searle s theory of speech acts specifically the expressive category (including greetings thanking apologizing condoling deploring attitude praising welcoming boasting and complimenting) alongside Hymes SPEAKING model for contextual analysis a qualitative descriptive method was applied. Data was meticulously collected from the official screenplay and audio transcripts with validation through repeated viewings script verification and triangulation of verbal and non-verbal cues. The findings demonstrate that Glinda s expressive utterances are highly strategic not mere conversational fillers. Glinda rsquo s most frequent expressive speech act is attitude (14 utterances) and the least is apologizing alongside Deploring (1 utterance). Her initial acts of thanking and boasting reflect a pursuit of social status while later apologizing and condoling signal a developing empathy. Attitude acts underscore her assertiveness and praising and complimenting reveal a shift towards genuine connection. Ultimately Glinda s linguistic choices throughout the narrative vividly portray her transformation from a self-absorbed socialite to a more compassionate individual highlighting the critical function of expressive language in shaping character development and advancing the plot within musical film adaptations. /p
