This study aims to investigate how song lyrics might convey a songwriter s message. In addition to reading or looking at the words that are lined up in a song lyric readers also attempt to figure out the meaning of the song lyric. The aim of research on the topic is to help the listener in comprehending the messages that the songwriter is attempting to express through the lyrics and content of songs that are directly relevant to a person s daily life. The study uses Rifaterre s Semiotic of Poetry serve asthe method of analysis for this study. The results of this study heuristic and hermeneutic interpretation of Owl City s song Vanilla Twilight tells about the lyrics love desire and nostalgia for a man and the woman he loved. a person s issues to get beyond the fond memories of their past relationships. The person may eventually move on from the other person but they will always remember what actually happened between them. The song s lyrics might be interpreted as an either a meditation on time and memories or as a love song.
