Abstract

Social studies learning in junior high schools covers several sub-themes one of which is local history. In studying this sub-theme students experience difficulties due to a learning process that tends to emphasize memorization resulting in suboptimal learning outcomes. Various studies have proposed strategies and innovations in the learning process aimed at improving learning outcomes. However no research has been found that integrates the role-playing learning model with historical thinking skills in studying historical events in social studies. This study aims to determine the effect of the role-playing learning model based on historical thinking on student learning outcomes at SMP Negeri 3 Songgon Satu Atap in the local history sub-theme. The method used is a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design. Instrument testing was conducted using validity tests reliability tests difficulty level tests and item discrimination tests. Hypothesis testing was conducted using a paired samples t-test with SPSS 29. Based on the research results it was found that the implementation of the role-playing learning model based on historical thinking had a significant effect with a medium effect category on student learning outcomes. The implementation of the role-playing learning model based on historical thinking can serve as an alternative in efforts to improve student learning outcomes at junior high schools.
