ABSTRACT This study examines Stand Up Indo Malang as a space for expression and a place where comedians identities are formed negotiated and represented. This analysis is based on Stuart Hall s theory of representation which views identity not as something fixed but as a practice of signifying that is formed through language symbols and cultural routines. In this study representation is explored at three levels (1) persona formation where comedians construct stage characters based on their personal backgrounds (2) narrative content where material is drawn from social class gender and local culture and (3) audience reception and feedback which confirm or challenge these identities. To sharpen the analysis this study also employs the concept of identity-coded humor (humor related to social markers) and the idea of decentralized humor spaces (digital platforms as autonomous arenas of circulation). Using a qualitative phenomenological approach data was collected through participant observation in-depth interviews with five comedians and three audience members documentation and literature review. Findings indicate that Stand Up Indo Malang functions as a social laboratory where comedians transform life experiences mdash such as being a rural youth campus police absurdist female comedian or logistics driver mdash into authentic personas. Digital media reinforces this process expanding identity representation building networks and occasionally amplifying controversy. Ultimately this community exemplifies how local creative spaces facilitate identity negotiation and cultural expression.
