Abstract

This study was motivated by the low learning outcomes in short-distance running skills among grade X4 students at SMA Negeri 2 Blitar. Initial observations revealed low enthusiasm and limited mastery of basic running techniques caused by monotonous teaching methods that failed to engage students actively. To address this issue a learning model that fosters a fun competitive and interactive classroom environment was needed. The cooperative learning model of the Team Games Tournament (TGT) type was selected as an alternative approach. The main objective of this research was to improve the learning outcomes of short-distance running skills among grade X4 students at SMA Negeri 2 Blitar through the implementation of the TGT cooperative learning model. It was expected that this model would enhance students motor skills enthusiasm and motivation during physical education classes. This study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and McTaggart model conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning action observation and reflection stages. The research subjects were 32 students of grade X4 at SMA Negeri 2 Blitar. Data were collected through short-distance running skill tests observation sheets for teacher and student activities and documentation. The data were then analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative techniques to determine the percentage of learning mastery and students rsquo participation throughout the learning process. The results showed a significant improvement in students rsquo learning outcomes with the mastery percentage increasing from 65.63% in the first cycle to 87.50% in the second cycle. Improvements were evident across affective cognitive and psychomotor domains. Additionally student participation and enthusiasm increased notably creating a livelier more competitive and enjoyable learning atmosphere. The learning environment successfully motivated previously passive students to become actively involved in classroom activities. In conclusion the implementation of the TGT cooperative learning model was proven effective in improving the learning outcomes of short-distance running skills for grade X4 students at SMA Negeri 2 Blitar. This model is recommended for application in physical education particularly in athletic materials to foster active competitive and engaging learning environments that effectively enhance student performance.
