Abstract

The era of the industrial revolution 4.0 requires students to have high-level thinking skills such as computational thinking in order to be able to face the challenges of the digital-based world of work. However the computational thinking skills of Phase E students of the MPLB Expertise Program at Al-Ishlahiyah Singosari Integrated Vocational School are still relatively low. To overcome this problem this study aims to describe the implementation of a problem-based learning model on Digital-Based Document material describe teacher and learner activities and measure students computational thinking skills. This research is a class action research conducted in two cycles involving 39 students as research subjects. The research instruments included observation tests questionnaires documentation and field notes. The results showed that the application of the problem-based learning model was able to improve the activities of teachers and students to enter the excellent category as well as improve students thinking skills. Compared to cycle I the results in cycle II showed a significant increase in both learner participation and the achievement of computational thinking skills. Thus the application of problem-based learning model is proven to be effective in developing students computational thinking skills through problem-based learning in vocational schools.
