Abstract

In chemistry the topic of acids and bases is often a part that is considered difficult by most students. The difficulties felt by students can be due to boredom in the learning process due to the use of learning media that is less varied and interesting so a game-based approach is needed to improve students motivation and learning outcomes. Therefore this study aims to develop a game-based learning media KISSA (Interactive Science Cards Acid Base) using the Learning Cycle 5E model to improve students motivation and learning outcomes in acid-base material. The method used in this study is Research and Development (R amp D) with the ADDIE development model. The study was conducted up to the development stage and tested on a limited basis on 20 students in grade XI-5 at SMAN 1 Singgahan. The validation results showed that the media was very valid with a media validation percentage of 97% material 94.3% questions 96.6% pretest and posttest questions 98.6% and field practitioners 97.3%. The media readability reached 86.4% with easy to understand criteria teacher and student responses were 93.3% and 85.7% respectively with very good criteria. Student learning motivation increased to 95% with very high criteria and was followed by an increase in learning outcomes from an average pretest score of 53.56 to a posttest of 89.13 and a summative assessment of 88. Based on these results the KISSA learning media was declared valid for use in limited trials to support the chemistry learning process on acid-base material.
