The increasing importance of listening skills in English as a foreign language (EFL) learning coupled with the widespread use of YouTube podcasts as an educational resource highlights the need to investigate how learning sources based on YouTube can be used to improve EFL students rsquo listening skills. This study investigates EFL students perceptions of using YouTube podcasts to improve their listening skills and to explore the challenges in using YouTube podcasts. This study employs survey research design the study combines quantitative Employing data from a questionnaire with and qualitative data from semi-structured interviews. Participants included EFL students from a Universitas Negeri Malang in East Java Indonesia. A sample consists of 44 students were selected across two classes that have appropriate criteria as research participants. The study population comprised both undergraduate junior cohort 2022 and senior cohorts 2021. The questionnaire explored students perceptions of the effectiveness accessibility and flexibility as well as engagement and motivation in the use of YouTube podcasts. The interviews explored the EFL students rsquo challenges in the use of YouTube podcasts. The findings indicate that the students have positive perceptions of the effectiveness accessibility and flexibility as well as engagement and motivation in the use of YouTube podcasts. However they admitted that they faced challenges related to speech speed and content length of YouTube podcasts.
