Abstract

This research aimed to examine the effectiveness ECOLA reading technique in improving student's reading comprehension. It was conducted in Islamic Junior High School (MTsN) 1 Kediri Indonesia. Fifty-six students of two 7th grade class were participated in this research. This research was a quantitative study with quasi-experimental design as the method of the study. The problem of the research was formulated in the forms of question i.e. Is there any difference in the students' reading comprehension skills between control group and experimental group Data were collected from pre-test and post-test and then analyzed by using SPSS 25. The result of the analysis revealed that the Experimental group post-test mean score is greater than the control group post-test mean score. It also revealed that the level significance (2-tailed) is 0.000 which is lower than ( alpha ) 0.05 (0.000 lt 0.05). This means that the H0 (Null Hypothesis) is denied while the H1 (Alternative Hypothesis) is cannot be rejected (approved) as there is a significant difference between Experimental group and Control group post-test results which also means that the implementation of ECOLA technique is effective to help students enhance their reading comprehension skills.
