Abstract

p Poverty is a multidimensional issue that requires comprehensive handling from various parties especially the government and society. This paper aims to analyze and identify the causal factors that can affect the percentage of poor people in East Java Province in 2023 through statistical tests and spatial approaches. Using secondary data and statistical analysis techniques this study found that poverty in East Java is influenced by low education poor health and the inability to meet basic needs. The results of the study show a relationship between the Human Development Index (HDI) variables and the percentage of poor people where an increase in the HDI contributes to a decrease in poverty rates. In the Kendall s Tau correlation statistical test it has a value of 0.00 lt 0.50 meaning that the variables influence each other and get a correlation coefficient score of -.598 which means that the percentage of poverty and HDI has a strong relationship and has a negative direction of influence. In addition the spatial approach is used to compare the two regions with the lowest poverty values and the regions with the highest values. This study recommends the need to optimize business units and community empowerment programs so that the community s economy does not only depend on nature. /p
