p This qualitative research discusses the role of visual communication media in establishing the existence of the Intenna Band as a representation of the Shoegaze music genre in Malang City. Shoegaze is characterized by its dreamy soundscapes and heavy use of distortion effects. Intenna Band utilizes various forms of visual communication media mdash such as albums posters stickers keychains tote bags and t-shirts mdash as mediums to introduce and sustain its presence within Indonesia rsquo s Shoegaze music scene. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method analyzed through Alfred Schutz rsquo s phenomenology theory Jean Paul Sartre rsquo s existentialism theory and Ferdinand de Saussure rsquo s semiotics. Data were collected through observation interviews documentation and literature review and were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman data analysis model. The research involved three types of samples Intenna fans general Shoegaze listeners and individuals who are neither Intenna fans nor Shoegaze listeners. Source and technique triangulation were applied to uncover facts and supporting data relevant to the research topic. The findings reveal that Intenna Band maintains its existence in the Shoegaze music scene due to several contributing factors such as the release of albums and mini-albums participation in local gigs tours across various cities in Indonesia and collaborative projects both locally and internationally all supported by visual communication media. These media serve to strengthen the band s identity develop emotional connections with audiences and sustain the band s existence amidst the evolving Shoegaze music scene in Indonesia. Nevertheless maintaining the continuity of a band s existence cannot rely solely on visual communication media it must also be supported by both internal and external factors. Internal aspects include natural cycles of change within the band itself while external factors encompass shifts in public taste the music industry s adaptation to market demands and the presence of competitors within the same genre offering different musical innovations. Thus the continuity of a band s existence must be supported by a combination of internal dynamics and external influences. /p
