p Film is one of the works of literature that has similarities with drama in stimulating the feelings and perception of the audience towards the plot. One of the important elements in film is character and characterization. In characterization there is also character development. According to the theory of Edgar V. Roberts (1999) character development can be seen from various aspects one of which is the way of speaking. This research uses looking at the way the characters speak by utilizing Brown and Levinson s theory of politeness strategies (1987) namely bald on record positive politeness negative politeness and off the record. This research uses Snowball s character in the movie The Secret Life of Pets 1 and 2 by using document analysis method in qualitative method. From the research conducted it shows that Snowball remains in his confident and outspoken character in expressing feelings but becomes more polite in talking to strangers he just met in The Secret Life of Pets 2 than in The Secret Life of Pets 1. /p
