Abstract

p This research identified a new wordplay phenomenon that occurred on social media in 2024 in which it is conceptualized as a joke that satirizes an unpleasant situation in a relationship. The data was taken from two sirprasayadi uploads on TikTok resulting in 36 collected data that were analyzed using qualitative methods. Following two research questions namely how wordplay patterns in the phenomenon and what types of wordplay appear in the data these data were put in two tables to identify patterns and types. The first table was made to find out the wordplay pattern by dissecting the jokes and knowing which target word would be the main focus of the wordplay. The second table was created to find out the wordplay in the target word and what the proper word is then from the changes in the wordplay the type was identified according to Thaler s theory (2016). As a result all the jokes have the same pattern they consist of a Setup Question (SQ) and a Punchline (P) where the SQ provides a hint question of the target words and the P asks for the intended context by mentioning the target words. All the data also shows that they are covered in 5 types of wordplay paronymy homophony phrase modification acronym modification and polysemy.
