p As language gender roles and societal standards evolve male and female speaking styles are clearly different and constantly changing. Today men adopt language once associated with women and vice versa. Thus the objective of this study is to identify the variations in the use of language features by Finch as a male character and Violet as a female character in the movie All the Bright Places (2020) focusing on mixed-gender conversations. This study employs the framework of seven types of language features proposed by Jennifer Coates by applying content analysis as a form of qualitative data analysis method. The collected data encompasses Finch and Violet rsquo s utterances. The results show seven language features found with a total occurrence of 142 times. The total number of language features identified in Finch rsquo s utterances is 82 times while in Violet rsquo s utterances it is 60 times. A thorough examination of the language features in Finch and Violet rsquo s utterances reveals congruence and incongruence with the results from the theoretical framework used and earlier research. Variations in the occurrence of language features between male and female characters during mixed-gender conversations are influenced by the different portrayal of each character and the context of the discussion. /p
