Abstract

Sound horeg emerged as a new form of entertainment for the people of East Java especially in Wates Hamlet. Fans are looking forward to events that use sound horeg and this manifests in daily activities for example using sound horeg at weddings majelis sholawat cultural marches and even initiatives for social fundraising. For fans of sound horeg it has its charm in general it has a reason to like the power of sound that vibrates objects around it due to the size of the sound of approximately 135 dB besides that for fans it will feel proud that with the ability of sound horeg can break glass and drop the roof of the house. This research explores the cultural practices of sound horeg in Wates Hamlet Gondanglegi District Malang Regency usied a descriptive qualitative approach the data collection techniques in the form of interviews and documentation. This research aims to reveal the social practice of sound horeg and the impact that the phenomenon has on the dynamics of community social interaction. Pierre Bourdieu s Social Practice Theory serves as an analytical framework. The results of this study reveal that the cultural practice of sound horeg is inseparable from the habitus and capital relationships used by the actors as a means of cultural production in the sound horeg arena to compete for prestige.
