Abstract

Conversational maxims are essential for effective communication yet speakers often deviate from these rules. Understanding these deviations can reveal underlying intentions and incorporating women rsquo s language features provides a deeper perspective on these interactions. This study dives into how Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games (2012) breaks the conversational maxims and the role of women rsquo s language features in her dialogues. It explores how the non-observance maxims and the use of women rsquo s language features contribute to the interpretation of Katniss speech. In fifteen dialogues Katniss flouts and violates conversational norms and employs five women s language features. The analysis uncovers the role of these elements in shaping the meaning of her utterances offering a deeper understanding of the interplay between conversational norms and gendered language. By analyzing these elements in Katniss utterances there can be a clearer view of how non-observance of maxims and women s language features influence communication enriching the comprehension of dialogue and language usage.
