p This research analyzes the characterization of Amy Elliot Dunne in the film Gone Girl (2014). This film tells the story of Amy who takes revenge on Nick for experiencing domestic violence. The series of causes and effects throughout the film are the main data sources for this research. This research uses Robert D. Hare s (2003) psychoanalytic theory regarding the characterization of psychopaths to oppose the popular opinion that Amy is a psychopath. Apart from that it also provides a new perspective on Amy a strong woman who is trying to get out of a toxic relationship and domestic violence. In this theory there is the Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R) and only three of the 20 items of psychopathic characteristics were found in Amy lack of remorse or guilt manipulation and superficial charm all three of which are the framework for this research. This research highlights that Amy s actions are an attempt to survive and regain control over her life. Thus the results of this research found that Amy is not a psychopath but a strong woman who is trying to get out of a toxic relationship and domestic violence. /p
