M.A (II) Dr. Mirjam Anugerahwati M.A. Keywords students rsquo experience maintaining willingness to communicate virtual classroom Online learning has been being conducted in all education levels since Indonesia was claimed becoming one of countries in the world infected Corona Virus-19 (Covids-19). It is imperative that students and teachers customize with new trend that they have to attend online learning instead of conventional one or face-to-face (FTF) in carrying out teaching and learning activities. Likewise teaching and learning English language teacher and students attend the virtual classroom (VC) as normal though they feel face-to-face (FTF) classroom gives comfort better. This study is intended to investigate students rsquo experience in maintaining their Willingness to Communicate (WTC) in English through VC conducted at SMK Negeri 8 Malang using Learning Management System (LMS)-based applications. A descriptive qualitative design was employed in this study to explore how they maintained their WTC in English and how they feel joining in VC. In order to get description thoroughly data were collected through questionnaires classroom observation and interview. The subjects of this study were fifty students at the third-year of SMK Negeri 8 Malang. All of them completed questionnaires and follow-up interview were then conducted with five students through live video conference using Zoom. The result of this study reveals that students prefer maintaining their WTC in English using written form to spoken due to their lack of linguistic competence such as improper pronunciation grammatical structure and vocabulary and their personality traits such as less confidence anxiety and fear to make mistakes. Dealing with satisfaction the students are quite satisfied indicated by average score 3.76 plusmn 0.78. It is inevitably associated with the other elements involved during VC. In conclusion students experienced new model of leaning English through virtual classroom in maintaining their WTC in English. Even though they prefer communicating in English written to spoken they are quite satisfied with VC activities supporting them to maintain their WTC in English. It is suggested that interesting materials and entertaining strategies to facilitate students rsquo activeness in maintaining their WTC in English should be taken into account in order to enhance their speaking skill. Further research is needed to get insight on more specific factors affecting students rsquo WTC in English so that the widest explanation can be obtained for EFL strategy development in Digital Era.
