This study aimed to analyze the essays of the students of the English department by using an adjusted scoring rubric to suit the EFL Profile. There are two types of the scoring rubric they are holistic scoring rubric and analytic scoring rubric. The use of a scoring rubric is supported more because there is a description of the writing aspect to achieve a good writing composition therefore can be used as a tool for teaching. However the scoring rubric commonly used is designed for ESL students and it may not be suitable for the EFL setting. There are aspect of writing that should be prioritized more than others (Turmudi 2020 Zulfikar 2020 Mustafa 2019 Sudarman amp Chinokul 2018 Husin amp Nurbayani 2017 Yuliana Imperiani amp Kurniawan 2016 Yunhadi 2016 Rahmatunisa 2014). For the purpose of this study the scores and descriptions written in ESL Composition Profile will be adjusted from the perspective of the EFL Profile. This study used quantitative and qualitative. The quantitative part was the calculation of inter-rater reliability using SPSS and the qualitative part was the analysis of the students of the English department of Universitas Sriwijaya rsquo s essays using the adjusted scoring rubric. The scoring rubric has been proved to have high inter-rater reliability. There is some adjustment to the scoring rubric mainly the scores and the description of criteria. The changes in the score were the addition of points for the vocabulary grammar and mechanics aspects and the subtraction of points from the content and organization aspect. The changes of descriptions were addition and adjustment based on the analytic scoring description from Gonz aacute lez Trejo dan Roux (2017). The essays used in this study were 20 essays from the students who take the Essay Writing class. Based on the result of the study it is found that the SPSS result for the adjusted scoring rubric is reliable to be used as a tool to assess the students rsquo writing skills. Based on the expert validity the descriptions of the scoring rubric are suitable for the EFL profile. The adjusted scoring rubric was then used to assess the essays of the students of Universitas Sriwijaya and the results showed that the students have been able to write well. However there were still problems found in each aspect of the writing based on the descriptions of the adjusted scoring rubric. From the content and organization aspect it can be seen that the students still have problems with making the essays cohesive and coherent. There are still students that wrote down ideas that were not in line with the topic of the essay and still made mistakes on the use of transition signals. From the vocabulary and grammar aspect there are still students that only use simple vocabulary and made grammatical mistakes such as (1) mistakes on prepositions (2) mistakes on articles and (3) mistakes on verbs. From the mechanics aspect the students still made mistakes on capitalization and the use of a comma. Lastly the suggestion from the writer for future studies is to have a more varied subject and location of taking the data to have a more effective data and to analyze the intra-rater reliability. From this suggestion the writer hoped that future studies with a similar topic will give more significant contributions.
