Keywords Jargon or slang Abbreviation Word Formation Processes Movie Dialogue. As a mean of communications abbreviations are commonly used by people all over the world. In the certain domain for example military jargon the use of abbreviated words is becoming a standard mean of communication. Ewaldien (2004) stated that slang word undergo some processes in its formation. Those words are formed through the process called word formation processes. This study focused on analyzing about the word formation processes of abbreviations within military jargon in certain movie series dialogues. The research design of this study is qualitative-quantitative. The main data are taken from the dialogue of the Generation Kill movie series. In this study the theory of word formation processes is mainly adopted from Yule (2010) and Prayogo (2007) books about word formation processes. This study aims to answer three research problems (1) What abbreviated words are found in the dialogues of the characters of Generation Kill movie series (2) What are the full forms of those abbreviated words (3) What kinds of word formation processes arise within the abbreviated words The data in this study are collected by transcribing the dialogues in the movie series then the researcher tries to find and identify the abbreviated word by marking classifying and analyzing through every sentence. The result of this study confirms that from 242 data there are 4 word formation processes which related to the abbreviated word appear. The most processes appear are acronym with 154 words (63.63%) and the following are clipping with 67 words (27.7%) blending with 17 words (7.03%) and multiple processes with only 4 words (1.64%) appear. Based on this study the most frequent word formation processes appear in military abbreviations is acronym. Acronym occurs when the new word formed from the initial letters of a set of other words. Few of the examples of acronym word found are SOP or Standard Operation Procedure AO or Area of Operations and etc. Mostly the abbreviations in military jargons is stand for some sort of command move military object military organization and etc. Furthermore in this study there are some other findings in military jargons that cannot be classified into word formation processes. These other findings are related to the idiomatic expression and other pragmatic or linguistic theories.
