Key Words Grammar Grammatical Errors Recount Writing. This study is intended to find out and describe the grammatical errors in students recount writing. It was conducted at International Laboratory School of UM and took the seventh graders of International Class Program as the subject. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The data of this study are 10 of the students recount writing on a memorable moment in their life. The grammatical errors found are classified based on the surface strategy taxonomy proposed by Dulay et al. (1982) they are errors of omission errors of addition errors of misformation and errors of misordering. The data show that there are 255 errors. The type of error with the highest frequency is misformation errors (43.52%) that consist of misformation of verb misformation of be misformation of noun misformation of adjective misformation of subject pronoun misformation of gerund misformation of infinitife misformation of object pronoun misformation of arictle misformation of preposition misformation of possessive pronoun misformation of auxiliary misformation of passive voice misformation of refletive pronoun misformation of conjuction and misformation of quantifier. The second highest frequency of errors is error of omission (32.94%) including omission of be omission of plural marker omission of article omission of suffix ed omission of preposition omission of verb omission of subject pronoun omission of conjuction omission of noun omission of s-v agreement omission of apostrope s omission of possessive pronoun omission of auxiliary omission of phrase. The third highest frequency is errors of addition (15.66%) that comprise addition of suffix ed addition of be addition of preposition addition of article addition of adjective addition of adverb and addition of quantifier. The next error with the lowest frequency is errors of misordering (7.83%) which include misordering of noun phrase misordering of clause and misordering of verb phrase. Based on the research findings there are some suggestions given to the English teacher the students and the next researchers. The teacher is suggested to give the students more exposures to the English structures that are different from Bahasa Indonesia and to pay more attention to the part of English structures that are difficult for the students. The students are advised to read more sources about English. Moreover it is important for the students to do more exercises on the structures that are considered difficult and to remember the different structures between English and Bahasa Indonesia. For future researchers they can conduct study on error analysis by analyzing other text types using other taxonomies.
